The Thaw

Saturday was a gorgeous day here in the Chicago area! Of course, I was stuck inside at my nephew’s Bar Mitvah from 8:30am until 3pm. I did get home in time to get both of the Swissies exercised and treated.

Indy came with me to downtown Downers Grove, home of Indy’s favorite store, Happy Dog Barkery. We got a fresh supply of treats, including the little bitty dried liver treats I use to bait or train, and then wandered around. As luck would have it, it’s 55 degrees outside and it’s the Ice Sculpture/Festival in town. Oops. There was a lot of people wandering around, so it made for good training. Gryffin got a good walk when I got home, but we just hung out in the neighborhood.

Sunday afternoon, we met up with Indy’s sister, Vasey, and her human at the Fullersburg Forest preserve about 15 minutes away. I wanted to get a feel for how Vasey would move with me and if she’d let me stack her. The dogs were all nutso at first, so we decided to go on a 2 mile hike to wear them out. We thought the route would be completely paved, but only about half of it was. We were all muddy and wet (was not surprised by the wet), when we were done, but we all enjoyed ourselves and the dogs were worn out. My car still smells like wet dog.

The mushy walk led to baths for Swissies! We have a small-ish walk-in shower stall that I’ve used recently for Indy. This was the first time for Gryffin. To say that he was not pleased would be an understatement. Indy was pretty darn good. Her fur is much coarser than Gryffin’s and dries really quickly, which is nice. Gryffin got the dog bed/couch good and soggy, but he’s the only one that sits on it, so there’s no problem there.

I didn’t get pictures on the hike. I was worried about slipping and dropping the camera, so I didn’t bring it with. I will take some over the next few days and post, though. I’m a bit behind.
