Kind of scary to think about, isn’t it? I feel like 2011 just started, and we’re more than halfway through.
You know what 2012 means, right? No, it does not mean another Paula Dean Holiday Eats special magazine in the store, although I did see one on Saturday. (Really? I’m still wearing tank tops and shorts. I don’t want to think about what I’ll make for my fam’s Christmas dinner!!!)
It means another Swiss Lick fundraiser calendar!
Yup, you heard me. Another. We’re doing it again. And this time, it would be awesome if we had more pictures from the Swissy community to include. We had a bunch last year, but it was still about 30-40% pictures of Indy, Ozzy and Gryffin. We’d like to include your Swissies too.
So here’s the scoop. I can include 3-4 pictures per month, and a 12 month calendar seems to work the best. If you have something to send me, contact me here (or via my forum or Facebook) and I’ll tell you where to send them.
Oh, and the sooner you send them the better. I’ll start putting it together in mid-September.

If you are looking to give a dog a forever home, please consider Alvin.
Alvin was rescued in Alvin, Texas from the Sheriff’s department. He is about 2 years old, tri-colored, 75 pounds, possibly a Swissy mix. He is very well behaved, extremely smart, very healthy and loves people. He is neutered, heart worm free, and has had all vaccinations. He gets along well with other dogs and is completely house trained. Alvin loves to go for walks. He has pretty high prey drive so might not be good with cats. Anyone interested in being his forever home please call 281-798-1787.

So today, hoping to help Indy past her shyness, and just to have a little fun, I took Indy to the Greene Valley park/forest preserve area. It’s generally a nice, permit-only, off-lease area about 15 minutes from our house. It also has a few miles of trails that you can hike, run, etc.
We met Cloudy there.
It is possible that you have noticed that Cloudy is not a Swissy. He is actually a beautiful Husky that is available for adoption through Adopt a Husky. If we didn’t already have 4 dogs, it’s possible I would have allowed him to “follow me home” in the back of my SUV.
Here’s another look at Cloudy, for those of you who KNOW you want to adopt him.
Here are a few other pictures of the event and dogs.
Some day I’d like to hook Indy and Gryffin up to one of these.
Here is a sweet Saint Bernard/Golden mix and his humans.
A beautiful Brindle Dane. I witnessed them get asked where the saddle was several times.
And finally, a beautiful mutt puppy available for adoption through Magnificent Mutts.
I really had been hoping this event would be larger. I went with the intention of speaking with a group about sled dogs and skijoring, but the man who was there ignored me while the lady who was with him sat on her cell phone. Perhaps another time.
