Happy Anniversary? Birthday?

Friday, September 2nd, 2011 | Alex, Beowulf, Dogs, Gryffindor, Indigo, Ozzy | 3 Comments

Or maybe it’s Happy Blogiversary?

Either way, Indy, Ozzy and I (plus Alex, Gryffin and Beowulf) have been doing this for three whole years. I hope you’ve enjoyed reading, as I have definitely enjoyed writing.

To celebrate, we’re doing a giveaway. It’s not the same as the past two years – it will not be based on comments. I haven’t been blogging enough to do that, methinks, and I want it to be different. So, we’re doing a trivia contest! Which means one lucky person will receive some gifts from Indy and Ozzy!

I’ll bet you’re wondering what gifts Indy and Ozzy could possible give you that aren’t bio hazards, right? But never fear, I monitored their online shopping, and I think we’re good. The winner will receive a couple of things, but some are not determined yet. I will wait to see the size of the winner’s dog so they don’t end up with something bigger than their dog. Suffice it to say that those prizes will be Indy’s and Ozzy’s “favorite things”. (Ozzy is a HUGE Oprah fan…)

The one prize I know for sure is a Mountain Smith K-9 Cube, valued at $60.

It’s quite neat. It includes:

Drop down food tray
Collapsible water bowl with PEVA waterproof liner
Collapsible food bowl with cinch cord
Removable PEVA lined Food container for overnight stays
Removable interior divider
Unique top pocket access to plastic baggies
Two side mesh pockets for tennis ball carry
Soft sided Frisbee

Hmm, maybe I should keep it for myself. But the dogs really want one of YOU to get it, so I guess not.

So, on to that trivia contest thing. Here are your questions.

Why are we called “Swiss Lick” Swissies?
What particularly gross thing of Indy’s did Gryffin eat? (Yes, it made him sick.)
Who won our first anniversary giveaway? What did they win?
Who was visiting on Indy’s second birthday?
Name one thing I learned from Gryffin?
What did Beowulf receive for the Christmas of 2010?
Where did Ozzy take his “Puppy 2″ class?
What did the 2010 anniversary contest winners receive?
Name one thing I wish breeders did with puppies before they go to their new homes.
When did Indy get fixed?

Submit your answers to me via email at contests@swisslickswissies.com. All entries must be received by 10am central time on Wednesday, September 7th. In there is a tie, the winner will be chosen at random from the group of those with the same number of correct entries. All the answers can be found in blog posts over the past 3 years.

Good luck, and thanks for reading!

Storms

Thursday, June 9th, 2011 | Beowulf | Comments Off

It’s interesting how things change over time. Some things for the good, some things not.

My coworker and I were having a discussion this morning about how his dog is storm phobic. I said (in jest, of course) that I would bring the remained of Beowulf’s tranquilizers in for him to give to his dog. That would be wrong, of course, but he still laughed, which is good as he was very low on sleep this morning and attempting to find a way to get the coffee directly into his veins.

Then it hit me. We had really bad storms last night. Lots of rain, lightning, and rumbling, house-shaking thunder. And nobody woke me up.

It’s weird. If this storm had hit last year, either Dan or myself would have been up for the better part of the night with Beowulf, unless we were lucky/smart enough to get him all doped up ahead of time.

I do miss Beowulf. But it is really nice not having storm phobic dogs.

It was a Very Merry Swissmas!

Thursday, December 30th, 2010 | Beowulf, Dogs, Indigo, Ozzy | Comments Off

I know we’re running a little behind here, but the dogs did have a nice Swissmas this year. Even the Basset.

Beowulf got his new bed a week or two ago because it was too big to keep lying around without actually letting him use it. Oddly enough, the other two seem to use it just as much. Ok, it’s not odd. I did get it in the Swissy size so everyone could sleep on it. I think I even caught Dan there once.

They each received a nice toy on Swissmas morning – of course, Beowulf has no use for his other than taunting.

See?

Here’s the one and only squeaky toy.

I thought rope toys would be fun. Side note – I ordered the “large” toys. I feel like they sent me the “small” size toy. If not, they don’t understand what large really is.

Beowulf showed a little interest.

But he really just sat there and did nothing.

So Ozzy collected it.

Indy played with her new toy on Beowulf’s bed.

Ozzy went back and forth between the two rope toys.

He got a bit uppity when one of the other dogs approached.

Oh noes! The toy fell!

Don’t even think about taking it.

Hmm, maybe he does want one.

Ozzy ate the puppy.

I hope everyone had a fantastic Swissmas!

Free to a (good) home!

Monday, December 20th, 2010 | Beowulf, Indigo, Ozzy | 1 Comment

I’ve got three dogs for someone who wants them. They are driving us absolutely insane!

First, our previously house-trained boy, Ozzy, has decided that he is not, in fact, house-trained this past week. More specifically the weekend. He has been swizzling everywhere, and a couple of times have been substantially more than swizzles. I’m just glad we have that Green Machine, because it’s going to save our carpet.

Second, Indy has decided once again that plastics on the counter are tasty. She chewed apart my measuring spoons (which is fantastic this week because I have to bake stuff), and got the new wine pour-er doohickeys that I bought the other day. Grrrr…

Finally, I’m sure it’s been Beowulf who has been leaving us lovely poop presents around the house. I’m just glad it’s solid.

So, if you find yourself in my neighborhood, maybe you want to check the “free dog” box on the porch.

Holiday Party Fun!

Monday, December 13th, 2010 | Beowulf, Dogs, Indigo, Ozzy | Comments Off

This weekend was Ozzy’s first holiday party…we’ve had other, smaller parties before, but he’s never had the experience of 50 or so people in the house at one time. He did quite well and enjoyed the attention.

Indy did ok. I think she could have done better. I tried to tire her out a bit earlier in the day by going for a nice, long walk. But she got spooked by someone, and it seemed to keep with her for the next day. But she lived and got lots of food.

Beowulf was fantastic. I’ve never actually seen him so social at a party before. Granted, he does shine when he wears a yarmulke, but this was different. Or maybe it was indifference… He didn’t care of he was in the way, and shamefully stole food off of a 3 year old’s plate. And he got lots of love.

Don’t worry, I did take a few holiday torture pics. You just don’t get to see them yet.

Learning to Catch

Friday, December 10th, 2010 | Beowulf, Dogs, Gryffindor, Indigo, Ozzy | Comments Off

You know, I had an idea for a funny post. I was going to make it yesterday…

Most dogs take a while to learn to catch things, like treats. It took Indy, Gryffin and Beowulf weeks of trying to figure it out. I started with Ozzy on Wednesday. I threw a treat to him 3 times and it bonked him on the nose. I laughed. I tried again with him on Thursday. He opened his mouth for the first and caught it on the second.

There goes my funny post.

We’re back!

Monday, December 6th, 2010 | Beowulf, Indigo, Ozzy | 2 Comments

After a lovely beach vacation for the humans, it’s back to blogging time! Let’s see…what happened while we were out…

Ozzy seems to have hit “that age” because he’s doing things he’s not supposed to. Like chewing the wood arm of the chair. The chairs need to replaced, so it’s not a huge deal, but couldn’t he wait until after the Holiday party? More importantly, did he actually need to do it in the first place? I say no.

He also seems to have made a slight play for dominance in the household in our absence. It’s sort of working, sort of not. Indy is still the bitch, you see, so he’s not quite there yet. I hope he’s not stupid enough to try to take it from Dan or myself.

And of course, it snowed. Yup, Ozzy experienced his first snow the day we came home. It wasn’t much, and I don’t think he was that impressed. Maybe 4 inches of snow is not enough for him. I hope he gets excited when we get dumped on for the first time. I will be disappointed if he doesn’t.

Beowulf was also kind enough to express his extreme displeasure in our lack of doggie gifts when we returned on Saturday night by using Dan’s office as a toilet. *sigh*

That’s all for now!

Swissy play date!

Monday, November 8th, 2010 | Beowulf, Indigo, Litter Mates and Swissy Friends, Ozzy | Comments Off

We had such a gorgeous weekend, and we were lucky enough to get together with Indy’s sister and one of her people. So I have pictures for you today!

When Vasey first arrived, she set the tone with Ozzy. She was mean and growl-y, but in a good way if you know what I mean. She was setting boundaries for him without actually biting. It took about 90 seconds, and Ozzy was firmly in line. Good girl, Vasey!

Then we got them outside, and the play started.

Ozzy turned into a submissive puppy. I wonder how long that will last?

Beowulf kept his distance, of course.

And Indy tried to photo bomb.

Indy and Ozzy definitely ganged up on Vasey. It was rather amusing.

Vasey is not very lady like, is she.

Now you get the opportunity to see the inside of a Swissy mouth. Calm down…

*Giggle*

The best way to double team a Swissy is to smoosh her up against a garage.

One of the humans felt the need to instigate.

I wish I was able to get more in the frame here, but the double play bow happened very fast.

And again/still with the double teaming!

I’m not sure what they all found so interesting about this particular branch on the bush, but if you look closely, you can see that a fair bit of the bark has been chewed off. Indy was actively trying to pull it out of the ground. Weirdo.

Go figure, after a couple rounds of crazy play, they crashed on our kitchen floor.

Happy Monday!
