Protective Swissy is Protective

Do you think it’s Indy? Or Gryffin?
Normally, it’s Gryffin. I can go somewhere with him at night, and if I do not have Dan with me, and you’re someone male trying to come in my general vicinity, you will get growled and/or snarled at. Indy has always been the more cautious dog, so I would never expect her to do it.
Until last night.
We went for an evening walk to get rid of some of her energy. I didn’t have any left, so you know it wasn’t for my benefit at all, other than she would perhaps leave me alone for five minutes when we were done. It’s getting dark earlier now, of course, so at 7:30pm, it was mostly dark. We walked up the street a few blocks, and then I felt the leash vibrate a bit. Then I felt a low rumble. Then I heard the low rumble. Then I noticed that Indy was putting herself between me and the guy walking toward us. (Who, by the way, lived in the house we were walking by…) She didn’t lunge, pull, or otherwise make any movement towards the man, but she was making it clear that he was not to bother me at all.
This was a first for us. I’ve experienced growling or barking at strangers, but only because she’s been afraid. Not because she was trying to protect me. She would always back away or hide behind me.
I guess my little girl is growing up.
