Have I figured him out?

I’ve had some decent success this week with picky boy and his eating habits. Things I have learned:

1. He cannot stand the new herbal supplement I got for his food. He didn’t want to eat the freshly browned ground beef that is his favorite food ever if the supplement is on it. The other two will eat it without hesitation, so we’ll make our way through the small container, and then get the stuff I know he will eat.
2. It seems to work well if I give him 2-4 meals a week that are cooked ground meat of some sort (chicken and beef are both winners) and a little rice. We’ll have to experiment with raw again and some other ground meats. He seems to go at his kibble with gusto as long as I give him some other meals during the week.
3. He likes company while he’s eating. Human company, not canine. But there are rules. I should be in the room with him, but I cannot look at him. It’s best if I have some task to complete while he’s eating. And he really wants the Swissies to be outside or somewhere else in the house separated by a gate.

Hopefully, if we stick to his rules, we can get him eating all his meals again. But I’m sure he’ll throw a few new curve balls at me to change it up.

One thing to remember. Part of a dogs taste has to do with smell. With Beowolf’s age I would think his smeller isn’t working so well anymore. Think good, stinky, smelly food and that may help, too.
