Ozzy
Payback’s a bitch named Indy…

I am still laughing, and it’s still going on, so I must share.
Ozzy has always been fixated on chewing Indy’s rear legs. He started as a wee boy, and he still does it now at 120 pounds and almost 15 months old. But tonight, the tables have turned. Just now, Indy has started to chew on Ozzy’s rear legs, and it’s driving him nuts. She’s also exhibiting other Ozzy-like play behaviors with him.
He is mighty perplexed, although he does enjoy it. Except for when he’s trying to chase the laser pointer.
Licky Fit
Monday, July 25th, 2011 | Ozzy | 2 Comments
I’m sad to say Ozzy experienced his first licky fit last night. It lasted under an hour start to finish. Unless you include the hour plus of obnoxious gas before hand.
First thing I did was give him a Gas-X strip and tried to keep him from licking the carpet. Or the walls. Or Indy. He wanted to lick, but took pretty well to instruction and stopped when we asked him to. Then I worked on trying to calm him down a bit. That seemed to help a bit, but he was still periodically trying to lick. I gave him a second Gas-X about 10 minutes later.
About 20 minutes after the second strip, I gave him a double dose of Pepto (the cooling pills) and then we let him outside to munch on grass, thinking that he may throw up and feel better. Well, he munched on grass, but he never threw up. But I think the Pepto pills started kicking in, and he stopped licking and finally started to relax. Approximately 15 minutes after coming inside, he seemed to have fully recovered.
So now we try to figure out what caused the fit. I have a feeling it was food related – we’ve been trying a new brand for a few days. His gas has been awful, and now the licky fit. I think it’s safe to assume we will not continue feeding that food.
Anyway…Happy Monday!
Play Day!

We were lucky enough to go visit our Swissy friend, Juli, at her house yesterday. It was a bit toasty, but a good time was still had by all.
You might think that 95+ degree weather with Swiss Mountain Dogs means no pics, but I was still presented with several good photo opps. There just isn’t much movement…
This is Juli. She is almost 2 now. And one of my favorite girl dogs.
You remember Ozzy, right?
And my favorite girl dog, Indy.
This is Bruno. He likes water, apparently.
Actually, he kept trying to roll himself into the water like it was raccoon poop or something that he could use for scenting his body. I don’t think it ever quite worked as he planned, but I’m guessing it kept him cool.
Here’s a better look at Bruno.
This is Bruno’s sister, Lucy. They are around 9 months old.
Ozzy found a nice cool spot under a bush on top of some hostas. He looks as happy as a pig in poop, doesn’t he?
I think maybe we’ll split some of ours and bring them over to replace what Ozzy trampled.
Bruno really enjoyed the water.
But he also managed to get Ozzy from under the bush for a little play time.
See? There was actually a little bit of playing.
Then Ozzy went back to his cool spot.
Indy snuck in once too.
Here’s a happy Juli in her yard.
I’m not sure why, but I really like this shot.
Love me! And give me your beer.
And after a while, we packed up the dogs and went back to the ‘burbs. And we cranked the AC.
Thanks to Juli and her humans for hosting a great day!
Have you thought what you would do if…

You had a tornado? Or an earthquake? How ’bout a hurricane?
I hadn’t thought too much about this until a few weeks ago when there were bad storms in my area. But there were no sirens, so I didn’t think about it again until Monday morning.
Dan was working at home (lucky guy) like normal, and there was a bad storm complete with tornado sirens. That’s when we realized that neither Indy nor Ozzy had ever been in the basement before. Nor had they wanted to. The stairs are narrow and slippery – heck I don’t like them myself. I was wondering if he’d be able to get them down there or not.
Turns out, he did. And there was no tornado. I think we should probably start taking them down there periodically to keep them used to it.
Mom! Mom! Momma! Mother!

So, the normal thing when I get home from work every day is for the dogs to be a little crazy for a few minutes, then they move on. Today, it lasted a little longer. Either Indy or Ozzy was shovel-nosing my hand off the mouse or keyboard for attention, or they’d whine. It kind of reminded me of Stewie from Family Guy.
Then I went into Dan’s office for a moment and they started playing together all silly like, with Indy writhing on the floor with a happy Swissy grin. Then I walked away for a moment. Within 5 seconds, they stopped, and Dan beckoned me back, knowing they were showing off for me. So I did, and they continued.
I’m guessing that this is the dog equivalent of your child telling you about their day at school, or putting a piece of extraordinary artwork on the frig for you to praise. Am I right?
Father’s Day

Indy and Ozzy were nice – they went online and searched for something for Dan for a gift and finally found what they thought to be perfect. And just in case he didn’t like it, the would be happy to use it as a chew toy. Sadly, the gift didn’t arrive in time. They had to come up with other options.
Indy decided to be a good girl and not freak out too much at the company we had over for a barbecue. She really only freaked out at the one person who didn’t wait for her to relax. He unintentionally challenged her a few times by bringing his face down to her level and staring at her. He did figure out that we weren’t joking when we said to ignore her.
Ozzy decided to be Ozzy. I’m not sure we can ask for more than that.
Happy Monday!
One of those walks…
Monday, June 13th, 2011 | Indigo, Ozzy | 2 Comments
The Swissies have been very happy over the past few days. The massive heat wave in Chicago is no more (for now) and we are back to good Swissy walking weather.
I decided Sunday was Ozzy’s turn for a long walk, and it was a gorgeous day with many people out and about. This means it was one of “those walks.” It was Ozzy’s first.
What is one of “those walks” you ask? Well, it’s one that we got stopped every 1-2 blocks over the course of 2.5 miles with the questions and comments.
“Oh my, he’s gorgeous!”
or
“His head is huge!”
and usually
“What is he?”
and don’t forget
“Where is his saddle?”
Ozzy took it all in stride. Go figure, he loved all the attention and praise from people. He let kids and old people hang all over him, and every age in between. He even went to church! We saw his grandma’s car at her church still, and noticed it had let out, so we went in to visit. He was well behaved and didn’t pee on anything.
Let’s hope for more good Swissy walking weather this week!
Beach Pics
Friday, June 3rd, 2011 | Dogs, Indigo, Ozzy | No Comments
Hosting a dog forum in addition to a blog sometimes confuses me. I know I posted beach pics somewhere, but it wasn’t here. So sorry it’s taken me a while to show you pics!
Swissies must approach the water very carefully.
They also like running up and down the beach, but they prefer it to be a game of chase.
Although I’m not entirely sure who is chasing whom.
There are brave Swissies, like Indy, who will venture into the water.
Although it did take her a few days to figure out the waves. In the meanwhile, she got splashed in the face a fair bit.
Ozzy would periodically get bored, and when Indy came out of the water with the ball, he’d try to eat her.
Hmmm, how to get the humans to throw the ball again. Maybe if I keep staring at it?
Yup, that worked.
Ozzy did not go much further than this.
He did like the water, but he never warmed up to the idea of waves crashing on the shore. They freaked him out a bit.
Happy Swissy Girl!
Tired Swissy Boy.
